Blogger Marathon # 4, Day 3, Potato Bonda, Kids love potatoes in many forms, like French fries, bondas, samosas….it goes on…for snacks one day I prepared this aloo bonda and it vanished off so quick, at last I dint get a piece to eat. There is no age bar for bondas, it is everyone’s favorite. Once I had Bonda’s in Saravana Bhavan, Chennai, i found that they add colour, cooking soda for the batter. As im giving it to kid i avoided it , if u like to add add it . I got the perfect colour and taste when I prepared here with out colour and soda…..
Potatoes 2no (Big)
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Channa dhal (Bengal gram dhal)1 ½ Tbsp
Green chilli 1no (finely minced)
Ginger 2tsp (chopped finely)
Curry leaves 2tsp (chopped)
Coriander leaves chopped handful
Turmericpowder ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Bengal gram flour/ Gram flour 1 cup
Rice flour 1 cup
Maida 1 tbsp
Corn flour 1 ½ tsp
Red chilli powder ½ tsp
Asafoetida a pinch
Salt to taste
Boil potato, peel the skin off and mash well with green chilli and ginger, mix salt. Keep a heavy bottom pan, Add oil and splutter mustard seeds and add chana dhal, sauté till chana dhal change its colour add turmeric powder ,curry leaf and potatoes, mix well. Finally mix coriander leaves. Cool it. Nicely mix well with hands, make small even size balls.
Prepare batter for making bondas with the given ingredients , Batter should be like bajji batter .Heat oil for deep frying. Dip Potato balls in the batter , coat well and deep fry it in hot oil till golden brown, strain oil well and serve hot with coconut chutney. Kids will love it with tomato sauce.
Note :if u want to add Onion , add it when u season with Channa dhal.
