Channa Masala - 2

Channa Masala is a dish which is prepared in various styles and forms.  I am a channa masala ‘s fan I will have it with all kind of main dish including rice. In this week I soaked channa for making sundal for evening Tiffin.  But  I dint get time to make it that evening , so it was held till the next day. I cooked channa masala for chappathi the next day for lunch. I made channa in a way that everyone will love it. It was perfect gravy and tangy .I can say it was finger licking dish. Just give a try.

Ingredients
Channa – 1 cup (soaked and cooked)
Onion – 2 (ground in to paste)
Tomato – 1 (ground in to puree)
Ginger / garlic paste – 2 ½ tsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Chole masala – 2 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Tomato puree – store bought – 1 ½ tsp
Tamarind extract – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Butter - 1 tbsp (weight conscious – please avoid)
Oil – 1 tbsp
Aniseed – ¼ tsp
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Method:
Take a wide mouth pan. Add the oil/ butter, splutter aniseed and add the onion paste. Fry till the oil leaves. Then add the ground tomato puree and mix both fry well. Now add the masala's given, ginger garlic paste and salt. 
 Mix everything well and add the tomato store bought puree and channa. Add the required amount of water and close the pan . Cook in sim for 3min. open the lid and add the tamarind juice. Keep the vessel open and cook for another 3 min.when oil leaves the gravy  mix it well. Check for salt.
Switch off the flame and serve hot with chappati/ parotta/ bread/ even dosa also.

Oats Upma

Oats porridge is a usual breakfast I used to have always. But when few friends of mine was telling me have something else as a breakfast other than porridge, I remember my mom in law used to do adai with oats and have. I felt like having a upma today for my breakfast, I did this as we do our usual upma only. Many people used to say oats is very sticky and all. So I dry roast the oats first like rawa. It was really nice and tasty. So I got another recipe for my breakfast with oats which is very healthy . Here we go.

Ingredients
Oats – 1 cup
Carrot, beans – ¼ cup
Onion – 1 medium size (chopped finely)
Vegetable masala – 1 tsp
Green chili and ginger – 1tbsp (together)
Oil – ( I used canola oil )-  little for sautéing
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves and curry leaves few
Required amount of water – 1 cup
For seasoning
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Urad dhal- ½ tsp
Channa dhal – ½ tsp
Method
Dry roast oats till golden brown and keep aside. Take a pan add oil splutter mustard, urad dhal and channa dhal. Now add onion, green chili and add salt. 
When onion changes it colour add curry leaves , coriander leaves and all vegetables (u can add more vegetables of ur choice). 
Then when the vegetables are done, add the oats and mix well.  Now add little water mix well.  Allow it to cook. Then add rest of the water. See whether the oats is cooked nicely then remove from fire. Chopped coriander leaves for  garnishing and serve hot with pickle of your choice.
